With a 1% fall in construction work in the December 2013 quarter, the Master Builders Association thinks the Government must act now to relax housing supply regulations and improve liquidity in the market.
But would more affordable housing – a bi-product of increasing supply – increase construction? Personally, I’m not convinced. Increased supply may just shift the construction industry from larger multi-unit developments, to more residential-focused construction, due to shrinking margins for property developers. The jury is still out on this, I’ll keep you updated as more data comes to light.
